PC fails to boot and the VGA indicator remains active following CPU, GPU, and motherboard replacement.
I’ve faced this issue since Christmas. The VGA indicator lit up unexpectedly and since then my PC won’t power on. All components turn on except the screen. Initially assumed the GPU was faulty, so I swapped it out and replaced the CPU. The VGA light stayed off until a few days later when it reappeared, prompting me to check the motherboard, possibly related to the PCIe slot. The VGA light remains active now. I’ve decided to install my old GPU and CPU. However, when I did so, the boot light turns on but sometimes both the VGA and boot lights stay illuminated simultaneously. I also considered the monitor or cable issues but tested different ones without success. I’ve attached photos for reference. Here are my current specs:
- CPU: Ryzen 7 5800X
- GPU: RX 7800 XT
- RAM: Corsair Vengeance Pro
- PSU: Evga 600W Gold
- Motherboard: Asus ROG Strix B550
- SSD: MSI 500GB NVMe
- HDD: Old laptop hard drive
- OS: Windows 10 64-bit
- BIOS: Unknown, but older versions don’t work with the new CPU
If anyone has advice or can help, I’d really appreciate it.
Did you check the alternative PCIe port with your old motherboard?
The previous motherboard lacked a compatible slot, but it’s unlikely that’s the issue. My new GPU and old system aren’t functioning on the new board either, yet I’m still unable to boot.
