while playing any games, my pc frequently experiences sudden fps drops starting from around 200 and dropping to zero every few minutes. This issue began a few days ago. I've checked the gpu drivers and ensured windows updates are current, but the problem only appears in games. The performance drops are noticeable when watching videos as well. The setup includes a core i5 10400f with 244xt cooling, an asrock b560m pro4 team create 3200mhz cl22, 2x8gb ram, a 1650 super zotac twin fan seasonic s12lll 650 watt wd green sata 240gb m.2 ssd (boot drive), a 5400rpm wd blue sata 1tb hdd, a 7200rpm wd green sata 1tb hdd, and a seagate proprietary 1tbb i riped out of a multimedia box (7200rpm) aero cool trinity v2 running windows 11 home. Temperatures are good, cpu idle at 30, load at 50-60, gpu at 40, idle at 70-80. It works with two 1600x900p monitors via vga to hdmi and dp adapters.
While playing games, run the task manager in another window and check the storage usage. Does it increase to 100% during stuttering? If so, it’s likely connected to the HDD.
I don’t have an NVMe SSD, but I do have a SATA SSD that’s nearly full because the operating system is using up space there.
Implies a buildup is occurring, causing delays when the game tries to access files since hard drives are slow and searching takes time.
