PC does not identify the new boot drive.
I recently installed a new NVMe drive (Samsung 990 Pro). Using the Samsung magician app, I cloned my older SSD and transferred it to the new one. The old SSD was swapped into the M2 port and placed in the secondary SSD slot. It functioned correctly initially, but sometimes I encounter a message during startup or after restarting the PC. I attempted to adjust the boot drive in BIOS and removed the old drives from the priority list, yet it keeps resetting. The system boots normally once I access advanced options and proceed with start. Anyone have any suggestions for resolving this issue? I don’t have an "F" drive either.
I've attempted to access the BIOS menu to adjust the boot drive to the new Samsung SSD and removed the previous ones from the priority list, but it continues to reset itself. Every time I check, the old one reappears in the list. Within your bootable device priority list, do you notice two entries for Windows Boot Manager? On a side note, what motherboard are you using? Which BIOS version are you running? Are you able to boot directly to the OS GUI without the older SSD being present in your system? If yes, that indicates your cloning was successful and you don’t need two SSDs with OS installations. You should be able to format the older SSD and use it as storage. Speaking of older SSDs, what model were you working with before the Samsung 990 Pro?
Consider using another SATA port first, have you attempted booting from the previous drive to check if the issue resolves?
Is there Windows running on your previous storage device? Installing multiple drives, each with its own operating system, can lead to issues. Would removing one drive allow the system to start?
The computer functions perfectly after I accessed advanced options, exited and opened Windows. The previous storage device has been cleared, leaving only the main drive with usable data, aside from my personal external hard drive. Note: (I plan to attempt booting without the old drive at home)
Old drive cleared
I own an Asrock B550M Pro4 and the BIOS should be updated to the latest version. In the bootable device priority list, Windows Boot Manager (Samsung 990), Windows Boot Manager (Kingston/Old Drive), and then Samsung 990 NVMe appear in that sequence. My previous drive was a Kingston SNV2S1000G. I haven’t attempted to start the PC with the old drive removed yet, but I’ll consider it later. This issue is essentially a minor inconvenience since my system operates normally as before, and I can confirm the cloning succeeded because all data remains intact, whereas my old drive was already wiped.
The BIOS should be the most recent release available. For clarity, it's worth noting that people claim they are using the latest BIOS, but there are still pending updates.
