PC displays black whenever I play games, adjust the resolution, begin a download, or even power on.
Hello, I’m facing an issue with my new PC and feel stuck. After trying various fixes, the same problem persists. Recently, while using the computer, the screen went black instantly. No signal appeared on the monitor, yet audio remained and I could still interact with games and apps. After turning it off and back on, the issue recurred. Now, when I restart and enter my password via the lock screen, the screen turns black again. Clicking the lock screen to type a PIN triggers the same cycle with green and blue lines. This prompted me to search online. I assumed it was a Windows issue, so I reinstalled everything from the SSD. After that, the problem returned. I discovered it affects users with G-Sync ultrawide monitors. To resolve this, I disabled G-Sync and used an HDMI cable, but the issue continued. I suspect a display port cable might be the culprit—so I switched to an HDMI connection, yet it still fails. Now I’m convinced the problem lies with the GPU or its drivers. The NVIDIA drivers didn’t cause it before or after installation, so I checked the ASUS website for my Z590-E motherboard. I downloaded all the listed drivers from various sources, but it still happened. The situation is frustrating and I’m exploring further solutions.
I haven't seen many black screens myself, but I don't believe the monitor is the issue. If possible, you might try using a monitoring tool like HWMonitor to check temperatures—overheating could cause black screens on some older systems. When idle, the temperature should stay close to room temperature. AIDA64 also helps but HWMonitor is free.
I noticed you overlooked something important—temperatures for the GPU and other components are quite low, which makes temperature unlikely the problem. At this point, it seems the main concern is the drivers you installed from your motherboards website. I performed a fresh Windows installation this time without downloading all the drivers, and I’m hoping it resolves the issue. If not, I’ll consider your advice. Thank you!
After reviewing your message again, you mentioned that the audio still functions and you can navigate through the interface. You referenced a similar issue where the monitor was unstable due to power draw, requiring a different outlet. This time, avoid using the ultrawide monitor and try the other one to check if the problem persists. If you're confident it's not the monitor, consider testing with integrated graphics for a while. It appears the issue might relate to drivers or the graphics card itself, depending on your system configuration.
You haven't encountered any issues yet, but the results so far suggest something may be wrong. It's worth checking if the monitor is compatible with your system and whether the connections are secure. If problems persist, consider consulting a professional.
Sorry, I was occupied with other tasks. You need to enter the BIOS and configure the graphics to use integrated graphics for proper display output from the motherboard. Also, remove the graphics card so it only utilizes the integrated GPU. Please let me know what processor you're using. Based on your description, it definitely looks like the GPU, and we'll confirm once you try this setup.
It seems unrelated to your previous comments. The issue appears to be with the display signal reaching the monitor, not audio or keyboard control.
Please share your system specifications and a photo showing the interior where most hardware is located. Thank you! I also understand @Wohaaa suggests testing only the IGPU and downloading something to help reproduce the issue. You might also try forcing a GPU driver restart once the graphics card is installed—using Win-controll-Shift-b can do that. It’s a quick fix.
Hello, after some adjustments I believe I’ve identified the issue, though the solution remains unclear. The black screen appears only when GPU drivers are installed, which happens during downloads. Once the drivers are present, login becomes impossible as the system freezes when clicking the lock screen. I’m using igpu for testing and it functions correctly. Without drivers, the GPU operates normally. However, installing older driver versions still triggers black screens, suggesting a compatibility problem. The system automatically re-downloads drivers each time I plug in the GPU, causing repeated lock screen freezes. Currently, I can only use my CPU’s igpu for navigation. I’m trying to restart the GPU drivers, but accessing the desktop becomes difficult or causes another black screen. Any advice would be appreciated. My GPU specs are: ROG Z590-E, RTX 3060, i9-10900K, Corsair RM850X power supply, 16GB RAM. Temperatures are low overall.
I'm still getting accustomed to this platform, thank you for your patience. In cases like these, it seems there might be residual traces of driver files causing the problem. That's why DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) was developed to fully erase any driver remnants, helping resolve such issues or for other reasons. https://www.guru3d.com/files-details/dis...nload.html Simply remove the graphics card, run the program to completely delete the NVIDIA drivers, and then install fresh ones. Ideally do this in Safe Mode. It's strongly advised to follow the instructions carefully from beginning to end, as mistakes can worsen the situation. Use the igpu, switch to Safe Mode, apply the program to remove drivers, and then install new ones. These updated drivers should be clean and won't cause further problems. If not, you may need to test the GPU on another machine, as the issue could stem from hardware. Hopefully, this won't be a hardware fault.
