PC Crashing
PC Crashing
I've owned a computer for a few years now, and it began having problems. About three months ago, it started acting sluggish, especially when using my mouse at 1000Hz during games. It would either freeze or crash completely. I thought the slowdown came from the mouse's polling rate, but after replacing the power supply, the issue worsened—my PC kept crashing and eventually triggered a BSOD. I resolved the power problem by swapping the PSU, but it led to more crashes. Eventually, I had to reset the boot drive, which was nice since only a few games were installed.
Later, I noticed frequent crashes before resetting. One of my RAM modules failed, but after replacing it, everything worked fine except for certain games that still displayed black screens or froze mostly. I have some older components, but the machine performed well before the PSU change.
I'm seeking advice on whether to fix this or if I need to replace parts. Option one seems appealing, though I haven't shared all the details here—it's a lot. My PSU is 750W.
Download the newest BIOS from the provided link and install the latest chipset drivers for AMD. Run PassMark Memtest86 to assess your memory, using the free version. Verify your system using sfc /scannow via command prompt or PowerShell with admin privileges.
Which specific PSU model do you have? Are you running the suggested GPU drivers version 22.6.1 Legacy? https://www.amd.com/en/support/graphics/...eon-r9-390 Have you swapped out the problematic mouse? What does CPU-Z display regarding your motherboard and BIOS version? Are you connecting one 8-pin (or 6+2 pin) and a 6-pin cable from the same PSU (piggy tail), or are you using two separate cables?
