I recently assembled a semi-new PC about three months ago. Its specifications are current: 5600X, new ASUS Tuff 570X, Wi-Fi, 32GB RAM, 3600MHz CPU, 970GB SSD. I purchased a 1080Ti from someone second-hand; it’s running around $80 and still functions properly. This might be the root cause. My PSU, an old Evga model I’ve had for nearly five years, is the cheapest option available. It seems to be the culprit too. When I play games or run demanding tasks, the system freezes within ten minutes, showing only the last frame until I shut it down. Then it turns completely black if I power it back up, but the monitor stays dark with no output. The motherboard lights have stopped at VGA a few times, usually fading when the CPU struggles to boot. If I unplug it and let it sit for about five minutes before turning it back on, it works until I start a game. I’ve updated the GPU drivers and Windows recently, but I’m not very skilled at troubleshooting. It could be a GPU or PSU problem, since those are the only aging components left, or possibly a software issue I haven’t tested. Someone more experienced would be really helpful here.
Before assembling your new PC, ensure your operating system was already set up. If you previously had another graphics card before the 1080 Ti model, reinstall the NVIDIA drivers and verify everything is functioning. It might be a driver-related issue. Consider moving your GPU to a different PCIe slot, even if it doesn't support all 16 lanes. Use GPU-Z to inspect the BIOS version and data; the card may have been updated for mining purposes, which could affect its performance under graphical tasks. Alternatively, swap in a different GPU and perform stress tests to confirm the power supply can handle the load.
