Hello, I experienced an unusual event where my computer suddenly stopped working. I was just relaxing on RuneScape, doing some tasks, and then the keyboard and mouse lights went off, locking the system completely. I had to shut it down using the power button. It’s unclear if this is connected to the issue, but earlier in the evening my hard drive disconnected unexpectedly and then appeared as unrecognized. I had to restart, unplug it, and reinsert it for it to function again. I reviewed the event log, but found no clear cause for the lockup. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
My system specs are as follows: CPU – Ryzen 7 5800X, cooler – Game Max Iceberg, motherboard – MSI X570 MPG Gaming Edge, RAM – 64GB Kingston Fury Beast, storage – two 2TB HDDs/SSDs, one 500GB SSD, one 256GB SSD, one 500GB NVMe *OS drive*, plus a 1TB external USB drive. GPU – RTX 3070, power supply – 9.7kW 80 Plus Bronze, chassis – Game Max Diamond, OS – Windows 10 64-bit.
I added a few extra details: it was similar to a crash when my OS NVM failed, but now it seems fine. I suspect it might be another failing drive—either internal or the external 1TB drive that disconnected itself randomly. Alternatively, it could be a Windows update issue that caused corruption somewhere, leading to the lockup. I ran an SFC /scannow check and found corrupt files, and in the Event Viewer I saw strange *metadata* errors. There were also events indicating it couldn’t connect to the update server. My thoughts so far are that it might be a dying drive, possibly one of my internal drives or the external 1TB drive I’ve been having problems with. Or it could be that a Windows update attempt corrupted something, triggering the problem.

I don’t think it would be the os drive since it’s just a month old and I had to swap out the original.
I also don’t know how to relocate the windows install elsewhere.
