Hello everyone
I’m thinking about upgrading from my 12th gen i7 to a new CPU. Should I choose the i9 14900k or the Ryzen 7 9800x3d? My main needs are gaming and recording with Nvidia Instant Replay. Are there any differences in how quickly games install between these two options? I’m also planning to upgrade to an RTX 5070 Ti after a few months, so I want to know which CPU gives the best performance now for 1080p, and which one is better for both current and future gaming at higher resolutions like 2K.
I currently have 32GB of DDR5 6400MHz CL32 RAM and an Arctic Liquid Cooler 3 CPU cooler.

Advice on stylizing your thread with the questions raised here has been provided. This adaptation comes from the Animal's *How To Ask For New Build Advice* Sticky, tailored to address frequent requests for upgrade guidance both in this forum and on CPU discussion boards. I believe it’s important to acknowledge the need for proper context before proceeding.

For clarity, please include your complete system specifications—CPU, cooler, motherboard, RAM, SSD/HDD, GPU, PSU, chassis, OS, monitor—along with the age of your power supply and the current BIOS version. This will help ensure a more relevant and helpful response.

If you're using the 12th generation, the next logical step is the 14th generation. You'd probably need a new motherboard to switch to AMD, and might have to reinstall your operating system. Game installation and loading times will mainly depend on your storage setup, not much on the CPU. The highest frame rates are expected from 9800X3D at lower resolutions such as 1080p, though this is quite game-specific. Fast-paced titles tend to perform better, while more demanding games (like simulations or strategy) will benefit more from the 14700K/14900K. As your resolution increases, the CPU becomes less critical since the processing is shifted to the GPU. The 9800X3D should provide longer longevity because future motherboards are likely to include updated CPUs for it. At least one additional generation. While not ideal for gaming, Intel Arrow Lake (15th gen), known as the Core Ultra 200 series, offers better efficiency. Models like Core Ultra 9 285k and Core Ultra 7 265K provide slightly less gaming performance compared to the 14th gen chips but are much more power-efficient. These still tend to be costly, so they rarely receive much focus.

I use the gameloop emulator to play pubg mobile, ensuring the 9800x3d setup works well for optimal FPS performance.

PUBG is a inefficient mess last time I checked.
Here is a comparison video with a 4080, which is basically what a 5070 Ti is.
View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aCa7kTBL6z8
I would say they are functionally identical, except the Ryzen uses half the power. GPU is running 90%, saying there is a little bit of room at 1080p to go so that an even faster CPU may help, but it more likely the game engine that is holding it back. You can also look at the other game comparisons.
Videos are hard to trust though, so look at a few before making any decisions.

I was discussing pubg mobile on the gameloop emulator instead of pubg steam.
