You're experiencing a strange behavior where your PC starts up normally but fails to boot from the SSD or USB drive. Once you try to access those devices, it freezes and doesn't progress beyond showing a persistent HDD light that stays solid on IDE mode but disappears when switching to AHCI. The system remains powered on indefinitely without any noticeable improvement.

I can't directly run tests or access your system, but I can help you prepare for them. Please list your hardware details (CPU model, RAM, storage type, etc.) so I can guide you on how to proceed with MemTest86 and interpreting the results.

I’m using an i7-990x processor with 24GB DDR3 memory, a ROG Rampage III graphics card, a GTX 1080Ti, and a 1TB Samsung 870 Evo SATA SSD. My current memory test results are unclear, and I can only boot basic systems beyond the BIOS.

just try it. there is no harm from that. Try with only one ram stick at the time to boot anything. Sometimes bad stick can do that. Try an other gpu. Even a gt 210 should do the trick. As far i know first gen i7 doesnt have igpu. Faulty gpu can stop you from booting. Set bios default - sometimes works - try it !. Boot from usb but besure ssd deattached. Damaged storage can send you in to infinite loops.

My storage status looks normal since it reflects correctly, and I’m confident it’s not related to the GPU because I’ve used it on other devices before.

The equipment could be functioning properly, but there might still be an underlying problem. I noticed many high-quality devices fail due to various random compatibility issues. It’s also possible the motherboard has a fault, so it’s wise to verify independently.

Consider different low-end GPUs and varying RAM options. These suggestions may not work without additional hardware, especially with older motherboards that can behave unpredictably.

I don’t have extra memory beyond what’s already installed—it’s DDR3 and includes a GPU. If needed, I might have to remove the whole system.

Still using the same setup, though I installed the 1080 recently and it functioned well before. Now it seems to be trying something different.
