I encountered an odd issue on my PC a while back. Sometimes it would stutter in quick bursts, about every two seconds. Restarting or logging in usually fixed it. It could either disappear instantly or last for a week or more. The error shown in the event viewer is what I see. I searched online but haven’t found a solution yet; no hard crashes occurred, just this stuttering. </Event>

Consider updating or reinstalling the Nvidia drivers since 'nvlddmkm' is included. Also, check for other driver updates, such as chipset drivers, if random stuttering persists.

I also attempted a fresh install of the newest driver, switched to studio drivers rather than game-ready ones, and updated all mainboard firmware yesterday. So far there are no issues, though it seems the problem still occurs occasionally. The next step was to run memtest to check for memory problems, but secure boot still prevents booting from a USB drive—this will need solving today.

It could stem from power issues, insufficient or defective power supply, or damaged cables. The issue might also involve the motherboard itself, a faulty PCI-E port, or a malfunctioning graphics card. Could you share the PC specs?

I hoped the issue was resolved after my previous message, but it still occurs. I’m trying to understand what’s causing it. System details: CPU i7-13700K, motherboard Gigabyte Z690, AORUS ELITE AX graphics, RTX 3080, 2x16GB Kingston Fury 5600 RAM, 11 Gold 850W power supply, storage includes Samsung 980 Pro 1TB, WD Blue 2TB, plus extra SSD and a 2TB HDD.

Are you experiencing unusual errors such as issues during decompression or unpacking? Problems when installing large games that require unpacking, or with Nvidia drivers? Perhaps shader preparation fails for Unreal engine games? Have you encountered crashes in other applications, or random browser failures? I’m recalling the notorious Raptor Lake performance issues. It could be something entirely different as well. Have you run a memtest? If you still can’t boot from USB for testing, consider using the Windows Memory Diagnostic tool—it’s at least helpful.

I usually unpack things without issues, except for games that came from dubious sources. I rarely experience display freezes where everything turns black and then restarts. These problems seem to pop up when launching the browser or performing actions in it. After running a memtest, everything checked out fine. However, I suspect my system might not be on the latest BIOS version, which is something I need to address next. Side note: should I disable Secure Boot before updating the BIOS? I’ve heard some reports about odd behavior with it.

Current Nvidia driver version varies. Recent unverified news mentions typical crashes with a black screen after the latest January update, but your issue began before that. Windows 11 isn’t compatible for many users. For BIOS updates, turn off BitLocker if enabled and allow full decryption; it’s usually unnecessary for home users and could affect drive performance.

I'm running 581.80, progressing through downloads and then switching to the latest studio driver (591.74). I performed a BIOS upgrade from version F22 to F33 and ran a full reset (no special configurations were applied). No improvements noticed. I updated all available drivers except the NVIDIA one, which is still pending. It seems Firefox might be involved—when I power on the system, the issue doesn't appear immediately but may emerge after opening Firefox. I suspected it could relate to multiple windows or YouTube auto-playing videos. I attempted to trigger the problem but couldn't succeed. Recently, while tweaking fan curves, some CPU cores occasionally warmed up. I'm currently idle at 40°-44°C using a Noctua NH-D15 cooler (which was lower during assembly). Current core temperatures reach up to 82°C in core temp. Regardless of the connection, I think replacing the thermal paste would be wise—I've ordered TPM7950 right away.

Check if Firefox launches without any extensions first. It could be an issue with an extension or a potential threat. If not resolved, consider reinstalling Firefox. When closing all Firefox processes in Task Manager during a stutter, does the problem vanish? Some online discussions mention Firefox causing Nvidia driver failures. A common solution is to turn off hardware acceleration in Firefox.
