I’m experiencing problems with my PC freezing after installing a new GPU a few months ago. Within 15 to 60 minutes, the system tends to freeze, though it doesn’t shut down completely. I can still access the web browser, but it fails to load content as if there’s an internet connection issue. Closing the browser closes the window, yet the app remains visible in the taskbar. When Discord is open, I can interact with it, but DMs or server messages don’t load. Once freezing occurs, it doesn’t automatically unfreeze. Sometimes I can power off the PC from the Start menu, sometimes restart it (which occasionally triggers a blue screen), but usually I have to force shut it down with the physical button. The CPU, GPU, and RAM usage are low at 20-30%, temperatures are normal, and the CPU was recently refurbished.
However, when playing FFXIV, the PC never freezes, even for hours. This is unusual compared to other games, though a freeze would still be rare during gameplay. Recently, the game started lagging, which might be connected? But it never freezes.
Since these issues began shortly after installing the new graphics card, I suspect the GPU might be the cause, although I’m unsure how to resolve it. Occasionally, the PC briefly freezes and then restarts, showing an AMD diagnostics popup indicating a driver crash. The drivers have been updated. At the same time, I received a Bluetooth adapter (TP-Link UB500) for headphones, and while initially freezes seemed to depend on being plugged in, they now do occur even without it. I don’t think this is the main problem.
My system runs Windows 10 on an M.2 SSD drive. Other drives are another SSD where most games are stored, plus a rarely used HDD for old games.
Details:
- CPU: Ryzen 5600x
- GPU: Radeon RX 6750 XT
- RAM: 32GB
- Power supply: RM850e
- Storage: B550-A Pro
- Drivers: Windows 10, updated graphics drivers
- Additional hardware: 1x 500MB M.2 SSD, 1x 1TB HDD, 1x 1TB M.2 SSD
I attempted to reinstall the GPU drivers, ran a drive check (all normal), and performed a Windows memory diagnostic. If you need more information, please let me know and thank you in advance!
I don't have real-time monitoring capabilities to report current CPU and GPU temperatures during incidents. I also don't track Task Manager activity automatically. You would need to check system monitoring tools or logs for that information.
could i attempt my order for the gpu once more, it seems to be faulty
Thank you, this resolved the problem! No more freezing issues.
