Hello o/,
this is the next part of my quest for a proper setup...
I recently purchased a new motherboard (Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3P) and plan to overclock my CPU (FX8370E).
After fitting it into my old case, I realized my PSU lacks the 2x4 (8) pin connector for the CPU—it only has a 4-pin.
Still, it worked fine for that single connection.

I checked the BIOS and tried to run the system at stable speeds like 3.8 or 3.7 without increasing voltage. However, whenever I set the CPU to constant 3.6 or RAM to 1600, it would shut down during boot, showing messages like "boot error due to wrong config in bios, etc..." followed by "change to defaults and turn on."
It might be a PSU issue because of the missing 4-pin connector.

well I guess your problems _could_ be related to your PSU not distributing enough power.
it's not clear though.
could be a bad OC as well.
furthermore make sure you buy a quality PSU like a Seasonic, Super Flower or XFX (except the XT-line and the TS430)
if it fits inside the case I don't see a reason to change it tbh

your character settings appear to be inconsistent.
if your CPU requires an 8-pin connector, a 4-pin won't provide sufficient power, particularly during OC.
additionally, the CX500 seems of low quality; depending on its age, it may no longer deliver adequate power.
try resetting your settings and see if you can boot normally again.
even though the PSU isn't damaged, replacing it would be beneficial for optimizing the OC of an FX8370e.

in defaults it turns on ok. I'm using it right now haha.
then, I will buy another PSU as soon as possible.
one last question: my case is very small (to the point that the mobo almost didn't fit it at all). but the temps are ok in all parts, gpu, cpu, mobo etc. should I change it asap too or will it do no harm at all?
my money is low and i, right now can't buy a PSU+case. just one or another..

We are not observing a cx500 PSU anywhere. There is no reference to it, and it clearly lacks a 4+4 pin atx12v plug.

Where exactly is the cx500 PSU located? I didn't see any reference to it, and it definitely has a 4+4 pin atx12v plug. Did I mix up some posts there? I should go to sleep...

i'm pretty sure it's a cx500. i've been using it for extended periods. even though there are more affordable corsair models, i'll switch to it eventually. thanks!

I don't know of any 500w corsair that doesn't come with a 4+4 pin plug, even when looking at the GS models from 2010. At 3.7ghz your CPU will be consuming 120-130w from the VRM, the PSU with just a 4-pin connection is probably of low quality, low wattage and far from the specifications. You might not have adjusted the voltage manually, but the board will handle it automatically. A 4 pin won't suffice. I'd revert your CPU to its original settings and tackle the RAM problem first. You might need to set timings manually if the board supports proper XMP/AMP profiles. This board includes a double boot safety feature that activates when you disable Turbocore, helping protect your system from damage due to mistakes.
