PC appears to be limited to a 100mb/s download speed instead of higher rates like 250mb/s.
I recently changed my PC from a z370 mb and an i7-8700k to a z690 and an i7-12700k, but when I connected it, I didn’t reach speeds beyond 100mb/s, even though I expected up to 250mb/s download. The rest of the household seems to achieve those speeds, and I noticed this before the upgrade too. It’s strange—nothing else changed except the CPU and memory. I thought I had the right drivers for the new parts and used Armoury Crate software from Asus to check, but I’m still stuck at 100mb/s. I’m not sure if this is normal, since Task Manager suggests the limit is 100mb/s. If anyone has any advice or can help, it would be really appreciated! I’d also love to share screenshots or more details that might assist.
Open Task Manager, navigate to Networking, then right-click the graph and choose "Show Network Details." This will display the current speeds for each interface. Note that you have four interfaces listed, but only one is active at a time.
I’m worried I’ll need to surpass you since I’m using VMWare and NPCap, which are virtual tools. Edit: Checking Task Manager suggests those two left connections are likely VMWare’s.
It's clear your NIC is operating at 100mbps. Do you have two NICs installed on your motherboard? The simplest solution is to connect the other one. Otherwise, we'd need more investigation, though it shouldn't be too complicated.
EDIT: To do this, go to: Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network connections (the wording may vary). Select the interface you're using, right-click, choose Properties, then configure it. In the advanced tab, look for Speed and Duplex settings—usually set to automatic works best, but you might try 1gbit manually.
I adjusted it to 2.5Gbps by default (since that’s the limit my system allows), yet it remains below 100mb/s, and even the Task Manager displays it using full bandwidth.
When handling manually, limit it to 1gbit. At 2.5gbit it won't work with your other networking equipment (routers, switches, etc.) unless they support it. It feels odd—almost like it's using a different Ethernet port. Have you verified if your router port is restricted to 100mbit for some reason? This might be due to power management settings.
