PC and web browser specific DNS problems
I searched various sources and haven’t located this solution. To give you context, I’m not technically inclined, but my understanding comes from YouTube clips or brief online searches. The problem here involves persistent DNS server problems on my web browser (Chrome or Firefox) while connected via Wi-Fi. My router is within 15 feet but on another floor, which complicates a wired connection. On my desktop, I can play games like World of Warcraft and COD-MW without interruptions, even after extended sessions. If I stay online for more than a few hours, I notice DNS issues or drops during gameplay—usually within 2-3 minutes when something loads or a tab opens. This happens when clicking links, videos, or emails. Interestingly, my mobile devices (phones, TVs, tablets) don’t show similar problems, even with limited connectivity. I’ve tried different DNS servers (1.0.0.1 and 1.1.1.1), but the issue persists. My desktop uses the 5GHz band, while other devices use 2.5GHz. The router is a Nighthawk model, and I haven’t reset it yet. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
It seems the problem might stem from a DNS configuration. Even changing DNS settings may not resolve it. The signal strength from the router appears weak. If the issue extends beyond DNS, it’s unlikely to be DNS-related. Are there any packet losses or unusual pings from the router?
I think the problem lies in the DNS section because of the error it displays. When I try to reconnect or run the "fix issue," it still points to a DNS issue. My ping is normal, between 68 and 75. I checked once more and it was within that range. It doesn’t seem like packet loss is the cause—I haven’t experienced that before. To clarify, I keep receiving the DNS server error message. If you see the error, please share the screenshot.
Restart your modem then your router. If configurations have shifted at the ISP side they could still be awaiting propagation. For now, rely on the default DNS servers provided by your ISP. Connecting a device directly to the modem/router, perform a speed test via DSLReports and browse some sites. Share your results with us.
Are you experiencing problems across the entire network, or is it limited to a single device?
