Payments in Devil May Cry 5
Payments in Devil May Cry 5
I just learned that DMC5 will introduce microtransactions as a single-player game—something you have to pay for. I’m curious why this was necessary. People usually accept cosmetic purchases in free games, but paying for skills in a paid game feels different. It’s confusing and seems unfair. https://www.pcgamer.com/devil-may-cry-5-...nsactions/
Everyone anticipated this shift when companies moved from selling PC games on CDs to platforms like Origin and Steam. The focus is clearly on generating the highest profit. Probably, they hire many psychologists to design games that maximize earnings as much as they do coding.
Microtransactions were introduced in Shadow of War and Assassin's Creed Origins. Now DMC5 is available. Many players still download single-player games via torrents and use cheats to access microtransactions whenever they wish. With more people playing P2W titles, torrenting them seems less problematic.
Since the cost is lower than usual for Capcom titles, I’m fine with it. If needed, I can use Cheat Engine for additional experience or skill points.
The article suggests they're offering red orbs to players who aren't motivated to earn them naturally in the game. This would let people unlock abilities they might otherwise miss. If you're just purchasing and playing as intended, these microtransactions seem harmless.
The idea is to charge a lot of real money for orbs, making them extremely costly... like in Star Wars Battlefront 2... would you think? Finishing the game twice just to collect enough orbs for one skill... that’s a huge amount of my microtransaction spending...
If they did it that way you're right, but we haven't experienced the game yet so we can't confirm. In the DMC3 Air Hike there were 20,000 orbs. If the numbers are similar then it's fine. If it requires 500,000 then it's an issue. The best approach is to skip preordering and wait for reviews.
Not surprised at all—it’s definitely a dick. But since the capcom is involved and it’s a single-player game, it’ll get modded. If they adjust it to push microtransactions, the first update will tackle that. They’ll try to get some players to buy the MTs, but most won’t, and many will just make modifications around it.
