Pastes don't fully wrap around the CPU.
Pastes don't fully wrap around the CPU.
Hi everyone, just installed 3800x and ran out of thermal paste. I managed to pull a bit from the tube and placed it in the middle. When I pressed the cooler and moved it sideways, it spread as much as possible, but there’s roughly an extra inch around the edges that isn’t covered. What do you think about this situation? Is it safe? Should I buy more paste and reapply it? The area looks a bit uneven in the photo I sent. I ran cinebench 20 and the maximum load temps are between 70-74°C, with idle temps around 30-35°C, which seems acceptable. I also checked it after installing the burner and Ryzen Master. My main concern is that the uncovered sections might get hot unexpectedly, possibly causing damage over time. Most people online suggest covering the whole CPU to be safe. Thanks for reading!
Thanks for the update. Regarding the Arctic MX4, it's available for fast shipping at around £5. Compared to the Noctua model you used earlier, it should arrive in about a week.
It's a bit low quality. Use the better paste. Your current temps are fine, so you don’t seem to need urgent changes. It’s wiser to handle things properly now to avoid future issues.
Hey there, I figured mx4 wasn't right. I'm stopping the order and ordering a Noctua instead.
