I own a 4-year-old Seagate Barracuda 500Gb drive from an OEM PC. It has 230 free gigabytes, and I need to set up an OS-sized partition while trying to keep everything on the same drive. The system won’t let me shrink the volume beyond 2GB, and it warns me that it can’t shrink it if there are files that can’t be moved. I’ve tried defragmenting, but the program keeps saying another tool has enabled partitioning and blocks access. I suspect the drive might have many bad sectors and could fail soon.

Dispose of the files by relocating them to a different storage device and erasing the data.

For partitioning, I use Partition Wizard 9.1. Consider trying different tools to defragment the drive, perhaps?
