Parents and video games
Absolutely, having real-life friends and engaging with them online is perfectly okay.
I've got immense amounts of experice in this area. Both my mother and myself have had lots and lots of very long conversations about this with various doctors and specialists. The really short answer is that It's a very fine line between being a good parent and a over-protective parent. The only real difference being how much knowledge and experice the parent has in any particular area. Unfortunately games are still a new media that for years has been seen as a kids toy and nothing more, so when uninformed people see games like GTA, BF, TR, DoA, so on they tend to jump to the extreme conclusion [humans are quite good at this it would seem], which as we all know is just about always wrong. Our generation will be able to teach our kids about videos games the same way our parents have taught us about movies but our kids will have something that we don't understand and the whole cycle starts again. All we can do is remember what is happening right now with games and recognise it with our kids.
