I'm using Windows 10 Pro Insider Preview Evaluation version 10565 on a hard disk. I installed it and am wondering if I need to purchase a full copy later. If I wanted to move the OS to an SSD, is there a method to obtain a consumer preview model after launch?

That’s helpful—no need to download again or enter a key when cloning it.

Clone the drive and employ the identical board.

You can stick with the same motherboard. If you switch to an SSD, expect less storage space compared to your current 1TB HDD. Before moving files, make sure to back up all programs and ensure the system is clean.

What capacity SSD are you considering purchasing? If it will be entirely occupied by the time you clone it, it's more efficient to perform a fresh installation on the SSD while keeping the existing HDD for regular use.
