my computer has been consuming a high amount of memory, I realized this while watching videos on youtube and chrome slowed down. when i checked task manager it showed the system was using all available RAM. it usually used less memory before, and now only around 40% is being used. i think closing synaptics helped reduce the usage.

Your system handles 4GB RAM well, but with 3 tabs running in Opera you're using a significant portion—around 58%—which can feel smooth despite the load.

Extensions consume significant memory as well. Open the Start Task Manager and check the Performance section; you’ll notice what’s using RAM. Keep following your posts.

I'm confirming this approach. Remove Chrome and switch to Internet Explorer. Observe your memory consumption.
