I’ve thoroughly dismantled HTC’s original Froyo ROM, stripping away nearly everything unnecessary—especially since the original Desire had very limited storage. Cleaning up bloatware is straightforward: just delete the APK and rebuild the ROM. But digging deeper proves much more challenging; you must tread carefully as changes affect linked components. For example, I removed the default live wallpaper because it consumed too much space (only 113MB remained on a clean install). Even though each file had a different wallpaper, a link persisted somewhere, forcing the system to crash before loading the home screen. It took me six months and I ended up purchasing a second device so I could keep a functional ROM with Sense. There weren’t any existing ROMs that matched my preferences. Once I finished, the new Desire S arrived—offering improved design and significantly more storage. Be careful; this path is risky unless you’re confident in your technical skills. You might end up pushing away friends and family as you repeatedly chase fixes.
