Customization was a key point, which is why I switched away from Bazzite. It offers excellent performance for running games directly, but it stays tightly bound to the base system image. This limits changes—adding anything other than flatpaks or kernel modifications is risky and frustrating. I returned to Fedora and then explored Gentoo, finding it satisfying. EDIT: KDE Plasma provides strong customization options. I’ve mainly adjusted the layout rather than themes, adapting it to resemble macOS. You can customize extensively, though it defaults to a Windows-like interface and isn’t permanently locked into that. From the desktop side, I’d prefer a tiling window manager, though I haven’t used one regularly—just experimented with different setups.

Absolutely, your take makes sense. It’s a solid way to start by concentrating on the gaming aspect while keeping customization ideas in mind later.

I don't own Nvidia, yet experts suggest it's no more challenging than AMD. Their open-source projects make it easier to compare. Follow the official documentation or community discussions for guidance. Linux relies on specific packages and kernels; using unofficial drivers can cause compatibility issues. Each distro forum likely addresses Nvidia questions in detail. Searching online can be risky—commands may become outdated or mismatched for your setup. While Linux is universal, its tools depend on the version you're using.

Tbf my customization consists mostly of removing stuff, I don't like clutter, it distracts me... For example my android "desktop" looks very similar to my windows one... There's just not much there! But yeah I get it, eventually I would want to customize things... And what's the difference to KDE and KDE plasma, because there's a "KDE" version of bazzite (I think) ... kinda confusing, it sounds like it would be customizable then...?

The short answer is they're all the same concept. The long explanation: KDE serves as the community, and Plasma is the desktop environment they develop. Many people simply refer to it as KDE or Plasma, as those are the primary terms. They represent the same overall system unless you look for variations like Trinity DE, which is built on top of KDE 3. Previously, KDE referred to the Desktop Environment without explicitly naming Plasma.

I've been using it for a while now, switching between Budgie and KDE. Still not sure how I feel about the changes after the switch, haha. Check out the site for more info: https://ultramarine-linux.org/

Opt for a 250GB SATA SSD such as the 870 EVO and try it out yourself. This way, you can see how it performs in real conditions.

In my opinion, choose KDE unless you enjoy tweaking config files for Hyprland, Niri Mango, i3, Sway, ScrotWM, etc using a text editor. You might want to strip away some desktop or taskbar parts in KDE to achieve a cleaner look. For example: Spoiler Spoiler

Sure, try some distributions and see what works best for you. 254 should cover most needs. -Add a few apps, play games, and use the terminal. There’s no one-size-fits-all setup for Linux—each of my three devices behaves differently.
