I'm playing Overwatch with minimal configurations. Using the lowest quality, all settings turned off or disabled. The game works well in idle mode, but when both teams are visible and explosions and gunfire appear, I drop to 2 or 3 frames per second. My internet isn't the problem—my home uses a wired connection via powerline adapters (the wiring is probably several years old) and Xfinity cable internet with a high-speed plan and low latency. Only Skype and Razer drivers are running in the background. I'm using an older gaming laptop (GeForce GT 635m, i5-3230 at 2.6 GHz) with 6GB DDR3 RAM. My friend's new consumer laptop runs the same settings without any issues on Wi-Fi. I think there might be something wrong with me! Thanks for the advice - Frigid Ninja

Review system background tasks and ensure you haven’t already updated your operating system to remove all pre-installed software from sellers. This video can assist with that: only the software is responsible if you have identical laptops with varying experiences. Luke and Linus discussed in their most recent WAN broadcast that identical machines can yield different outcomes under Windows 10, suggesting the OS could be the issue. Additionally, it might be that your laptop isn’t configured to use GT 635m for gaming, but instead relies on an iGPU, which could explain the poor performance.

Consider checking for driver updates, though the GPU may need replacement if it's quite poor.

You'd start by finding the right method to change, then follow the steps carefully.

The GPU meets the lowest requirements to operate Overwatch, even a contemporary Intel Iris Xe is sufficient. This is the bare minimum.

Really, that's a letdown. I'm hoping to take advantage of the Black Friday deals. Thanks everyone!
