Is it available on Steam?
I’m keen to give it a shot even if it doesn’t fit my usual tastes.
I won’t install any other launcher for any reason.
Or create an account with someone else.

No, Blizzard's titles aren't available on Steam. They use their own platform, Battle-net, and you can sign up using the link given.

Compared to what? The ladder is quite outdated, but if you match my skill level, it’s at least fair. My preferred arcade mode is also not great these days. Still, this remains the best FPS for solo play unless you locate good servers in TF2.

The mechanics have shifted after introducing the class limits. The biggest frustration for me is the excessive number of shields. Another issue is that much of the damage comes from the area of effect rather than precise aiming, unlike in TF2.

I believed we were discussing something from a time when goats were common, or even before. Shields remain an issue, and with OW2 coming up, it's hard to predict what will happen in the next couple of years.
