Overwatch 2
Overwatch 2
What you anticipate from a competitive game featuring a cartoony art style is that it should be accessible and not overly challenging. While there have been some improvements in lighting and textures, expanding the number of maps and modes doesn't justify a "2.0" update—it seems more like a quick profit move.
I think you're right about OW 2 being on a different, overhauled engine with a focus more on PvE. It's interesting to see how this change will affect the game and what new possibilities it opens up. On the other hand, regular OW is still in a somewhat limited phase until OW 2 releases, which feels like a long time away. I still find the game enjoyable from time to time, but I'm feeling a bit worn out.
It's just another scam. Only free-to-play studios aim to maintain their games. The dev team has already made a billion and is trying again with OW 2. That's why you now have an impressive 27 heroes available next season.
At the end of the day with OW2, if you focus solely on PvP, you won’t need to purchase it, since all new features will be included. This essentially covers just the PvE aspect of Overwatch, which has been addressed through past archive events. I believe the cost might seem high, but everything so far with Overwatch was free, except for the BlizzCon skins and the mercy breast cancer skin, which helps explain why they’d charge for what promises to be a fully complete campaign with extra features not available in PvP-only versions.
In another conversation I’ve had, it seems from the outside that Blizzard might eventually switch from lootboxes to a system similar to Riot’s, using blue essence and riot points, where OWL tokens could be rebranded as in-game currency. This would let them sell premium skins, emotes, and other cosmetic items directly, rather than relying on loot boxes or hoping for enough coins. Such a change would help protect Actiblizz from any future gambling-related lawsuits tied to loot boxes.
