It was brief yet impactful (besides the 1 1/2 lead up Rolleyes) – Star Citizen 1.1.0 (no longer solely Arena Commander). REC can be used to purchase items at the Electronic Access store (now owned by Origin and operating as a rental outlet starting next Tuesday). Multiplayer offers free flight gameplay. Gimbal mount updates – sizes 2 and above support gimballing, though only one size under mount specs is available if you choose that option, balancing power and precision. New damage effects introduced via a procedural system (see link). Retaliator now features a "hangar ready" design, which looks impressive (see link). Animation improvements have been made; the FPS module experienced delays due to FPS development (still expected 2-3 weeks, still this month). "Star Marine" is developed by interDimensional (ID) software, the FPS module for the simpod. Two levels are available: space station, up to 8v8, and zero-G sports arena, up to 16v16 (SC1.1.1). The sports arena FPS module was tested live and functional, performing well despite being slightly sparse in a 4v4 match. It appears more tactical at higher levels, with space station suited for lower numbers. Social features will be showcased next week at SXSW (SC1.1.2), targeting an early April launch. [Link]

This year wasn't very impressive... I could have saved $15.

It was much shorter than anticipated, likely because SXSW wasn’t held last year. This time they split the content into two consecutive weeks. Have you had a chance to try any FPS games?

I managed to try a few rounds of the FPS, ending with one kill and one death before passing it on to my friend. The game feels quite similar to what I see, but it runs a bit stiff and mechanical. I’m hoping for more fluid animations in the future. Chris told me they need an internal server and can’t use the PTU version because of internet limits, so I suspect the demo was from an older release. I’d really like to experience the space station level first—I’m more curious about the classic FPS feel until the zero-g and battle arenas are polished.

It's also important to note how long it took to develop dogfighting, even though I liked the first arena command game. I’m looking forward to the automatic aim gimbal returning later, but with a major reduction in its impact.

I understand this, I see it will be great eventually, but the version they were using was quite rough. I think it's now in a better condition than when AC first came out—Illfonic really crushed them.

Gimbaled weapons are also referenced and will receive a full overhaul, likely in version 1.1. I don’t recall the exact update that came before.
