Buying a 5900X with an x570 Tomahawk without overclocking seems reasonable. The CPU will handle heavy 3D rendering with all cores active for extended periods. It should stay cool and stable with the B550, though the x570 might be a better fit for your needs. You're not using any overclocking, so it's likely safe.

B550 functions like an X570 without SLI support (which is largely obsolete) and a few additional traits. Unless you require the specific capabilities of that board or chipset, B550 should work adequately.

Grab 3900x values, AMD keeps the same power constraints as Zen 2 CPUs they swap out. The B550 works if the board supports everything you need—like multiple USB 3 ports and an RGB header. You won’t get full PCIe 4.0 performance or the entire chipset bandwidth since it’s limited by the chipset.

PCIe 4.0 might become useful for me soon... Appreciate your assistance.

PCIe 4 remains available for the premium X16 slots and M.2 ports on the B550, but other parts lack it unless you opt for very costly models that match the performance of the X570.

You’ll have a PCIe 4 M.2 port with B550 support. It should work for the boot drive. The graphics card might require another generation for full PCIe 4 x16 speed.

Sure, that makes sense. I’ll stick with the B550 plan. I won’t add more than one GPU and might use two NVMe SSDs.

A B550 Tomahawks should support the Ryzen 5000, but you might need to install a BIOS update for optimal performance.

Asus X570 TUF and X570 Aorus Elite can easily manage a 5900x with great performance while offering solid features at a lower cost. Note that B550 lacks PCIe lanes, so adding more than one NVMe drive would result in slower speeds due to chipset limitations.
