I have a Ryzen 3 1200 and when I push it over its default speed to 3.1 ghz, my computer stops working after around 20 minutes of gaming because the CPU overheats (reaching above 90 degrees). I've noticed others managing to get overclocks up to 3.7 ghz or more with stock cooling, so maybe I'm just unlucky. I've changed the thermal paste a few times but the issue remains. Any suggestions on what might be causing this?

even though using a stock cooler is feasible, it falls short; opting for an aftermarket option would be more effective.

I did not specify a particular CPU voltage setting in the conversation.

It seems you likely have auto voltage affecting high temperatures. You can easily overclock to 3.6-3.7ghz with standard cooling. Manual voltage adjustments are necessary; the stock cooler must stay under 1.35v (or even lower) to avoid exceeding the maximum temperature. Aim for a peak temperature of around 80°C.
