Hey there, I'm checking in about my R9 3950x setup. It's running smoothly on an Aorus X570 Extreme board with minimal load—around 14%. The CPU temps sit near 68°C, thanks to a Corsair CX7 water block and a Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut cooler with two 480mm fans. My RTX 3080 is also cooling the same loop and stays at about 32°C. The room temperature is about 23°C, though one CCD tends to run hotter than the other. Any tips or advice would be appreciated! Thanks.

Have you adjusted any BIOS settings besides turning on DOCP? Sometimes default voltage levels from different motherboard makers can increase automatically. Have you installed the latest chipset updates and BIOS? Checking your motherboard model reveals two revisions, so updating is important—make sure you know your current version first. Were these changes just for testing and are those spikes just during startup?

When examining load versus temperatures, focus on the peak load in any one core rather than the total system load. A single core reaching high load can raise temperatures because of their proximity on the chip. As others noted, elevated idle temperatures aren't uncommon, and checking the initial three cores in your image—especially if it's not idle—can provide clearer insights.

It seems the system wasn't inactive. The temperature was about 54°F. The main updates were XMP for RAM and a bios/chipset refresh.

You're referring to a 54C motherboard and a 3800XT Ryzen processor. The temperature difference between the CCDs seems unusual but not overly so. It might just be due to Gigabyte's default BIOS settings increasing voltage. Running Windows can significantly lower idle temperatures. I'm using Windows 10, but it makes sense for Windows 11 too. If it bothers you, you can adjust PBO limits in BIOS or try undervolting.
