Overheating issue is severe and needs immediate attention.
I was playing a game earlier and noticed my CPU getting extremely hot (over 100°C) and stopped the game right away. I thought it was just because of heavy workload, maybe a short break would help, but now it keeps getting hot even when doing simple tasks. I'm currently streaming on YouTube while chatting with friends on Discord, unzipping one file at a time, and it still reaches 100°C. I wasn't expecting to worry about CPU temperatures before, especially since the system is liquid-cooled. I've had fans running at full capacity without cooling issues, but I don’t have any good benchmark tools to test how high the temps would get under heavy load. Can someone assist me?
It’s probably time to replace the cooler with new thermal paste. If you used the paste that came with your cooler, it might not have done enough. I also faced problems getting the cooler seated properly the first time. The reason isn’t clear to me. For better results, consider getting a bending correction frame from Thermalright on Amazon—it costs about $10. This helps prevent the warping of 12, 13, and 14 generation CPUs when they’re under stress. Warping creates a slight bend in the CPU cover, leading to gaps between the CPU and cooler, which raises temperatures during heavy use. Changing the retention system may void your warranty, but that’s a minor concern compared to what you might see in the videos. Watch some YouTube tutorials to confirm. Swapping out the original ILM isn’t as significant as it seems in those videos.
It seems you're dealing with a cooler that needs some maintenance. Cleaning it properly is important, but the old layers can be tough to remove. Usually, you can wipe away as much as possible with a paper towel, then use alcohol to lift the tiny particles. Q-tips work well for edges and corners. I suggest using Noctua thermal paste—it's a solid choice. Don't forget to check the bending correction frame, as it can improve your temperatures too.
