Hi Guys,
Just built my first PC from scratch and it's actually working well, especially since it's my first build!
I've increased the clock speed to 4.2Ghz and it's been quite stable so far, with temperatures in the low 50s.
When I go up to 4.4Ghz things start to become unstable—completing the Intel burn test without issues but experiencing BSODs during other tests and crashes in games. Even at 4.4Ghz, I'm still seeing low temps (around 60°C under heavy load).
I've set the voltage to 1.25, which seems appropriate, but I haven't increased it yet because I'm unsure if my motherboard is the problem. My board is a Gigabyte GA-Z97P-D3, which isn't considered a high-performance model. Could this be the cause?
Also, I haven't adjusted the ring voltage as suggested in some videos, so that might be another factor.
Any advice or help would be really appreciated.
Thanks a lot,
Chris

It might not be possible to overclock the CPU to 4.4 and maintain stability.
I believe achieving a high-performance CPU requires winning the CPU lottery...
What issues arise when running it at 4.2GHz?!?

Blackink :
Maybe your CPU can't be overclocked to 4.4 and run stable too.
I hear to get a good over-clocked CPU, you need to win the CPU lottery......
What's wrong with running it at 4.2GHz ?!?
Yes, I'd seen that too although I assumed it was for overclocks higher than 4.4Ghz. I've read lots of posts that say 4.4 should be easily achievable.
There's nothing wrong with it but while it was running I felt I noticed an improvement at 4.4. Also, I just want to.

Guess what I'm really wondering is whether my motherboard could be causing problems with my overclocking. Probably wasn't meant to be missed.
