Overclocking Xeon E5-2665
Overclocking Xeon E5-2665
Hey everyone.
I’m using a Xeon E5-2665 on an Asus Rampage Extreme IV. Next year I intend to upgrade to an I7 3930k or 4930k. At the moment I’m managing a base clock speed of 105MHz, but I’m not very familiar with overclocking. I’m hoping you can offer some guidance. The environment is stable and the PSU should handle 600W easily. Looking forward to your tips.
I understand. Non "K" or "X" Intel Processors don't have a fixed multiplier (my own is set to 24). However, it's possible to increase the overall clock speed. When you boost the motherboard base clock—which gets multiplied by the CPU multiplier—you can raise the stock clock from 100 MHz to around 105 MHz. That would mean a CPU speed of about 2.4 GHz. Many people have pushed even higher than that. In my BIOS I see various settings, and I'm not very familiar with their meanings or the core voltage. I was hoping someone could assist me here.
The CPU temperatures during idle are approximately 45°C, they rise to 63°C with a 105MHz base clock. The cooling solution for the CPU is a budget option (Alpenföhn style), though it works adequately. In demanding situations I plan to upgrade to a liquid cooling system.
it is likely insufficient when using a K series CPU because of increased voltage and frequency.
