overclocking tips for i7 920
Hey, I just upgraded to an RX 570 and have an i7 920. I’m wondering if overclocking affects how much power the CPU uses and what the safe limits are for this setup.
i discovered the solutions on my own, helped by a friend, and so far i haven't seen any gpu issues.
Yes, increasing the CPU frequency will result in higher power consumption due to the increased operating speed. For your next point, you should provide details about your motherboard and power supply, as these factors influence the processor's capabilities. Also, keep in mind that this CPU is quite old—around ten years—so it may still face performance limitations even with overclocking, but it could offer some additional gains.

The i7 920 is an early low end version of that CPU series. Most mother boards that support that can run up to an i7-990X, and also some Xeons as well. X5690, X5687, W3680. Even if it has a locked BIOS there's a lot you can still do with that platform.
I would look up your system at userbenchmark.com and see what CPUs can run in it, and the level of performance available. Some of the faster 6 core Xeons are $20 CPUs now. here are some old Dell X58 workstations with up to RTX2080 GPUs.
