As mentioned, I own an FX 8100. I’ve been using a pleb motherboard for the longest time, hoping to overclock for years. Eventually, I managed to get a solid motherboard, the Gigabyte 970A-D3P rev 2. My issue was not realizing this board supports a 4+1 power phase, and that overclocking at that level is quite risky. I was curious—given my pleb CPU (2.8 GHz, with a 15.5x multiplier and 95W TDP running at 1.24 Max V on the CPU VCORE), if I turbo to 3.1 GHz and it stays under 50°C during maximum load, would it be safe to push it up to 3.5GHz with turbo turned off? Also, how much voltage should I aim for to keep it below that threshold? Any additional details would be appreciated!

Ensure proper airflow around the VRM since they tend to get very hot. When I increased the speed with cheaper boards, I added a fan nearby. The max voltage for FX CPUs is about 1.5, but I’d limit it to 1.4 under heavy load. A 3.5Ghz setting isn’t really an overclock because the chip can turbo up to 3.7; try pushing it to 4.2-4.5.

Airflow needs to perform well with two intakes and an AIO cooler to avoid blocking the VRAM. There should be a method to detect overheating, and since the turbo is at 3.1, going to 4.2 would be extreme.
