Overclocking the fx 6300
Overclocking the fx 6300
Hi,
I recently got a new PC and upgraded its components. Now I have some parts left that might work together for a second machine—possibly for streaming. The only missing piece is a GPU, but I’m considering upgrading my GTX 970 to a GTX 980 Ti. If I install a GTX 970 alongside it, the second PC could run a GTX 970 with an FX 6300, though I know the CPU limits performance. I’m wondering if overclocking the FX 6300 would help the GTX 970 perform better, or if this whole plan isn’t worth it.
CPU cooler: Hydro Series™ H60 High Performance Liquid CPU Cooler
I’m unfamiliar with this overclocking area, so I want some advice.
not vs 450 nor M5A97 LE R2.0 aren't suggested for overclocking, but mild overclocking could be attempted. If you decide to try it, consider this approach.!
So is it really worth it? I won't be purchasing a new motherboard or power supply since they're just spares. I believe the GTX 970 works fine with the FX 6300, but I would have preferred a slight improvement.
Never mind trying to overclock the FX-6300 enough to completely remove the bottleneck from the GTX 970. I own multiple systems, and one of them is an FX-8320E running at 4.4 Ghz. Changing the MSI GTX 970 from a PC with an i7-4790k to the FX-8320E causes a noticeable decrease in FPS in CPU-intensive titles such as Fallout 4. An FX-6300 would perform even worse than the 8-core setup.
Sprados:
The hydro H60 doesn't offer sufficient cooling for overclocking your CPU.
Corsair H60 is sufficient for moderate overclocking with a 95W TDP CPU.
I suggest purchasing an Intel processor. The AMD FX series lacks the capability to power high-end GPUs effectively. The FX-6300 may cause bottlenecks with your 970. Also, I don't advise overclocking it since its stock cooler is poor. Only consider overclocking if you have a suitable cooler.
It looks like a project that didn’t go well might be better off selling the parts. If you’re considering a 1 TB SSD, I’d suggest looking for one at a good price—though they’re around £200, it’s not too bad. For a solid option, could you recommend something similar? Also, about the EVGA GTX 980 Ti, it’s superclocked and shouldn’t impact its lifespan, right? (main PC)
Edo4Life those were just spare parts from upgrading my main system, so I won’t be spending money on them. Maybe just sell them instead.
