Hello everyone. I've been playing Mafia 3 recently and wondering if overclocking my FX-6300 with a GTX 960 MSI 4GB GPU would give me any extra FPS or performance gains. Would this setup work best at its standard speeds, or is there a better configuration possible? Thanks in advance!

GPU usage at full capacity isn't really limiting. However, OC has always provided a small improvement in my experience, even if it wasn't initially causing a bottleneck. You seem to have a good cooler, you might want to try it.

the only certainty comes from checking your GPU usage—if it's near 100%, your graphics card is at capacity. examine your CPU's individual core usage; is any core reaching its maximum? if the game is running on that core, the CPU will limit performance and overclocking could help.

I think it could be useful in CPU-intensive games. What kind of cooler do you have? If you own a good one, you might want to customize it.

maxwellmelon :
to be sure, check your GPU usage. if it's near 100%, your video card is at capacity.
examine your CPU's individual core usage. is one core reaching maximum? (if so, the game is using it, which means OC would help)
i'm seeing both CPU and GPU spikes from 35% to 100%, but mostly the GPU hits 100 while the CPU doesn't often.

Working on that motherboard could lead to problems. The VRM tends to overheat, which results in the CPU slowing its performance.
