The restriction on overclocking 12600K or similar CPUs on the B660 board stems from both hardware and software factors. The motherboard likely lacks the necessary support for advanced overclocking features, and firmware may not allow such configurations. There isn’t a straightforward way to bypass these limits without modifying BIOS settings or using third-party tools, which could affect stability.
Intel offers options to boost the multiplier on certain boards, though it’s probably due to hardware constraints. Likely, someone would have cracked it already. Overclocking a 12600K on a B660 board is feasible, but not all B660 models support it. Some boards include external clock generators, allowing you to raise BCLK and overclock chips without changing the multiplier. You can also apply this technique to non-K SKUs such as 12100 and 12400. Using a K SKU isn’t practical right now—only two are available (with upcoming releases) and they’re comparable to mid-range Z690 boards. This approach is less frustrating, so I’d avoid it unless absolutely necessary.
Hardware Locked. If you want to OC you have to buy the Z series Boards. Intel Always has done this to make sure you spend more money, Usually the cheaper boards are designed to handle the cheaper CPUS that dont have much voltage. There is BCLK OC but dont do that, its sketchy and can mess up stuff if you arent careful, and overall most CPUS dont have much headroom anymore.
