I was tricked on eBay once. I purchased a "gaming" PC for $300, which advertised a GTX 660 and an AMD A6-7400K. It turned out there was no graphics card, and I couldn't return the item. Now I'm unsure if it's worth overclocking this CPU since I already have a stock cooler. Should I try to push its performance before upgrading, or is it better to skip it?

You can't really push it much due to the stock cooler, and it probably has a low-cost motherboard and a weak power supply. That makes it hard to achieve a stable overclock. Plus, you won't see a big performance increase anyway. I wouldn't bother wasting time on it.
