Overclocking slowed my pc down
Overclocking slowed my pc down
I just assembled a budget gaming PC for gaming purposes, here are the details...
CPU: Intel Pentium G3258 @ 3.2Ghz (overclocking not possible, motherboard restrictions)
RAM: 1X Kingston 8GB DDR3
GPU: ASUS STRIX GTX 950
Storage: ADATA 128GB SP900 SSD
HDD: 1TB WD Caviar Blue (7200 RPM)
Power Supply: Cooler Master Elite V2 500W
I’ve had a solid gaming experience with this setup. Achieved around 60 fps or higher in all my games without any issues until I tried to overclock. Using MSI Afterburner, I gradually increased my overclocks to about +120mhz for the core clock and +88mhz for memory. Initially, I pushed it further to +130mhz core and +90mhz memory, but had to revert after noticing some performance drops. When I lowered it back to +120mhz and +88mhz, my frame rate dropped significantly—often to just 30fps in many games. Afterburner reported only 405mhz for both core and memory during games, and the fans stopped spinning completely, causing the system to overheat to around 39°C. I tried increasing fan speeds again, but that didn’t fix the main problem. Can you help me understand what’s happening?
