overclocking ram with memory multiplier limited to x16 leading to a standard 1600mhz
Hello, I'm attempting to push my RAM beyond its commercial limit but am limited by the system memory multiplier cap.
My setup includes:
I5-4460
G1 Sniper H6
Team xtreem DDR3 2666 x2 (another unit uses ADATA 2166)
In BIOS I enable XMP, and the voltage and latency adjust automatically.
Yet the system memory multiplier is fixed at x16, so I'm stuck at 1600 MHz—the standard supported speed.
I found a post from Toms who managed to overclock RAM using a G1 Sniper B6 motherboard.
If my understanding is correct, the B6 model belongs to the B85 line, which should be one level lower than the H6 (H97) line.
But I’m unable to even push the 2166 MHz RAM up due to this multiplier restriction.
Is there a specific program I should use? I’ve tried several, but most either focus on GPU or CPU and display a support warning.
The Easytune app from Gigabyte also has the memory multiplier capped at x16.
Could this motherboard handle RAM overclocking? Or is the only option to upgrade to a Z97 motherboard? (I’m not keen on the financial side of that...)
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
The H97 chipset cannot accommodate RAM speeds exceeding 1600MHz, regretfully.
