Hello
I'm assembling a new PC and plan to use the AMD Ryzen 5 1600 with MSI x370 Gaming Plus MOBO and the stock cooler. I have a few questions:
How much can I increase the CPU speed, and what are the limits for overclocking?
For RAM, I'm considering either 3000MHz or 2133 MHz depending on your advice.
Please help me out.
Thanks

It varies based on your cooler. If you're just using the stock one that comes with the CPU, the impact is minimal. Also, it relies on how lucky you were with the chip selection. No two identical chips ever reach the same overclocking level.

When they're moving below 3200 14cas, it's highly unlikely they're Sammy b-die.

3.8 Ghz is acceptable, but 3.7 is superior since you can reduce CPU voltages under stock conditions. Both RAM timings and frequency will increase, resulting in lower wattage, noise, and temperature compared to the additional 2.5% CPU speed gain—only 2-4 extra frames per second in games—and don’t overlook the very high RAM timings. No point, in the end you won’t gain anything. I usually prioritize OC with RAM timing and power consumption as my main focus. I have a TridenzZ 3200, but Ryzen/Trident sweetspot at stock voltage is 2966 MHz (even 3066 on these 3200 models—extremely high RAM timings). My 24/OC settings are 3.7 GHz at 1.244V... 2966Hz, 1.35V, 14-14-13-30-52... CineB is 1250, and the earlier setting (14-13-13-30-52) was slower.

Ryzen CPUs gain significant performance when memory speed is increased.
It depends on your cooler. If you're using only the standard cooler with the CPU, the benefit is minimal. Also, it varies based on how well the chip performed in testing. No two identical chips ever reach the same overclocking level.
2) I wouldn't suggest overclocking RAM on a new Ryzen chipset. Manufacturers are still fixing issues, particularly with memory. In everyday tasks like gaming or light video editing, the performance difference between 2400MHz and 3000MHz is negligible.

rdgoodri :
Ryzen CPUs have a BIG performance boost when you increase the memory speed.
Show me the numbers in games and productivity like Vegas studio, hotshot. I'll wait. Oh by the way N00B, you do realize you are responding to a nearly year and a half old thread, right?
