You definitely went too far. I spent about a week adjusting my 3200 RAM to 3400 with tighter timings on my 2600 build, modifying one setting at a time while checking for stability.
Now that I'm using a 3700x on the same capacity, my RAM won't go beyond 3200 with slightly tighter settings.
I think it's best to wait until Asus updates the BIOS for your model to improve RAM compatibility and OCing.
I hope this happens within the next few weeks.
