Overclocking non-K CPU

Hello! I attempted to overclock my i5-6500 but faced issues. I'm using an Asus z170-A motherboard. It seems Intel has introduced restrictions that prevent overclocking non-K CPUs, and after trying, the system wouldn't boot and had to be reset. I suspect my BIOS might not be updated correctly. Anyone know the appropriate BIOS version or have experience with overclocking non-K CPUs recently?

this article could be relevant for you since it was authored by an OC using the same CPU on a z170 motherboard. It turns out your manufacturer (ASUS) doesn't permit BIOS rollback to the required version for non-K CPUs, but MSI might still allow it.
