Hi all,
I'm using an Inno3D GTX 1070 and need advice on overclocking. I've done it before with MSI afterburner, but it always brings the card into idle mode and keeps it there. I have to remove afterburner and restart my PC to get it working again. In idle it runs at 139MHz for the core and 405MHz for memory – that should give me solid FPS in games, right? But if anyone can help with this issue, it would be really appreciated. Also, when the card is idle, the fans don’t spin much, but when they do, they get quite hot at around 84 degrees.

Sorry, I misinterpreted you. The default setting without exceeding the temperature limit should be 85*C before throttling. Uninstall the MSI and download asus gpu tweak II from the provided link. Note that it offers a free download.

You have no idea what you are talking about or you are being sarcastic?
Of course while overclocking, core clock should be at its rated when OC'ed (also for memory), fans have to spin unless 0 fan mode (under 60*C fans dont work), above it should start to spin, if not there is conflict betweeen something.

You seem confused about what you're discussing or if you're being playful. Of course, when overclocking, the core clock needs to be at its rated value during the change (including memory), and fans must spin unless in 0 fan mode—under 60*C fans won’t work. Above that, they should start spinning; otherwise, there’s a conflict somewhere.

Yes, I was joking about the 139mhz clock being fine. But the card idles like that if it isn’t handling graphics-heavy tasks. For instance, when loading a game, it goes to stock and boosts, but with an overclock it doesn’t do that. Instead, it stays at idle clocks while memory clocks rise to their expected levels. I just don’t understand why this is happening and whether 84 degrees Celsius is too hot for the GPU. It feels a bit too warm.

Idle 84 isn't performing well at all... Did you swap or replace the GPU for cleaning? Did you forget to connect the fans?

Idle 84 isn't performing well... Did you swap or replace the GPU for cleaning? I also forgot to connect the fans. Oh no, it's definitely not idling—idle fans don't spin, and the temperature is about 35 degrees. When under load, it's around 80 degrees.

Apologies for the confusion, I got it wrong...
The default setting without exceeding the temperature limit should be 85*C before throttling.
Uninstall msi, download asus gpu tweak II
https://www.asus.com/us/site/graphics-ca...-tweak-ii/ (It mentions a free download).
What should I do next? Will this still keep the fans from spinning when idle?

Hi, it seems the Asus GPU adjustment was the solution.

I understand sometimes the MSI Afterburner doesn't show clear reasons for conflicts between drivers. Different brands like EVGA and Gigabyte also offer software for overclocking.
