My components include a Ryzen 5 2600X, a Gigabyte B450M-DS3H motherboard, and a G.Skill Ripjaws V Series 2x8GB RAM kit. My current RAM speed is 3200MHz with specific timings of 16-18-18-38. I'm curious if adjusting these timings could improve performance and by how much. Since I'm just starting out with overclocking, your advice would be greatly appreciated!

Adjust the XMP profile and discard it. You won’t achieve speeds above 3200mhz on a second-gen Ryzen without extensive testing, which is risky and time-consuming. Afterward, you’ll need significant stability checks—at least 8 to 16 hours of Memtest86 and Prime95 runs with custom tests—to confirm the memory remains reliable and prevent data corruption. For most users, setting the profile in BIOS is a simpler and safer option.

Adjust the XMP profile and then ignore it. Achieving speeds above 3200mhz on a 2nd Gen Ryzen processor will require significant trial and error, and likely demand extensive stability testing—typically 8 to 16 hours of Memtest86 and Prime95 runs with customized tests—to confirm memory stability and prevent data corruption.

For most users, setting the XMP profile in the BIOS is sufficient, allowing your memory to operate at the advertised speeds without further adjustments. Before proceeding, verify if an updated chipset driver exists for your B450 chipset on the AMD website and install it if available. Also, ensure your motherboard BIOS is current.

Since you're using a lower-end B450 board, you might encounter situations where manual memory configuration at 2933mhz becomes necessary, especially if you lack a kit with B-die ICs and a robust motherboard.

Thanks for the assistance! I had already refreshed all my drivers and configured the XMP profile prior to this, which is good to know I don’t have to do much more.
