overclocking locked skylakes
overclocking locked skylakes
I'm interested in purchasing a Skylake model between 1 and 5 generations for an ASUS Z-170A. Can I overclock the CPU, or do I need an ASRock Z107 Extreme 4 motherboard? I noticed a recent announcement from Toms suggesting that all Skylakes are overclockable. Please find the article link if you'd like, and feel free to share your thoughts.
Currently, if you aim to overclock, it's best to go with a K version CPU. Reports suggest Intel may be restricting this feature, so for overclocking consider an i5-6600k or i7-6700k. You'll also need a motherboard that supports overclocking, meaning anyone using the z170 chipset should be suitable.
