Hello there!
I recently installed a new system with these specifications:
Asus ROG Maximus Hero XI
Intel I9 9900k
32 GB-Corsair VENGEANCE DDR4 2400MHz (4 x 8 GB)
Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080ti

When playing Battlefield 5 on Ultra, DX12, FutureFrameRendering=OFF at 1440p, I achieved around 100-144+ fps, depending on the map (MP - 64 players). On maps like Narvik, I reached about 115 fps and it would drop to 99 fps. I considered overclocking to improve performance, as I saw benchmarks for OC hardware. However, this was quite a mistake for a beginner.

I checked my motherboard’s documentation and discovered the "AI Overclocking" feature. I updated the BIOS to version 0805, enabled the XMP profile, and activated the "AI Optimized" setting under CPU Core Ratio. This triggered the changes. My games started running smoothly without crashes, but then I encountered a bluescreen with the message "system thread exception not handled."

I thought this might be due to the overclocking or the BIOS update. I returned to BIOS version 0702, which was stable, and reset everything back to factory defaults. But the games still crashed back to desktop, and I received a similar error.

Could someone assist me? Did I make a mistake when resetting it? Or is a CMOS reset necessary to completely clear all overclock settings?
Thank you in advance for your help!

Intel I9 9900k works with DDR4-2666 memory. Faster memory is often used during overclocking, but using slower than standard speeds can reduce performance.
Hello! Thank you for your reply!
I just reset the CMOS and will revert to the original settings since I lack experience with overclocking. It seems safer that way. :x
Hello,
Battlefield 5 is an excellent game to check if your overclocked system remains stable. If your game crashes to the desktop, it's not the game—it's you, hehe.
- Update your latest BIOS—this isn't the BIOS version causing issues, so ensure you're using the latest one.
- Restart the BIOS and enable XMP profiles for RAM...

Initially, avoid any AI overclocking or automatic overclocking – they really don’t work well. In fact, I’d steer clear of overclocking unless you’re experienced.
Secondly, using the default optimized settings should suffice, but if problems persist, reset the system with CMOS.
Check if your cooling system is functioning properly; temperature issues might be the cause. Running HWMonitor can help monitor core temperatures.

Don't ever rely on AI overclocking or automatic overclocking – they really don’t work well. In fact, I’d skip overclocking altogether unless you’re experienced.

Are your cooling components functioning properly? You might be dealing with temperature issues. Run HWMonitor to monitor core temperatures.
Thanks for your reply! I did a CMOS reset yesterday and everything stabilized – BIOS is back to default too. I’ll never use that option again. (I already have a Corsair liquid cooling setup, which keeps temps around 63°C during BFV)
I also upgraded to BIOS 0805 again. Now there’s a new feature called "Multicore Enhancemend." By default it’s set to AUTO, which seems like ASUS is trying to optimize the CPU. Would you recommend keeping it at the default auto setting or making any changes?
Thanks for your assistance!

Supported memory: DDR4-2666
Higher frequency memory is often used during overclocking, but using slower than standard speeds can lead to performance loss.
