Hey Tom'sHardware family,
I've been considering boosting my CPU speed to improve gaming performance, but I'm completely new to the process and need guidance. I think I might need a better CPU cooler and my motherboard could be a limiting factor. If you have any questions about why I'm thinking about overclocking, it's because during gameplay with titles like GTA IV and GTA V, I notice occasional lag spikes. Even when driving around in my fast car, the experience feels disrupted, especially at high settings where my FPS drops to 60-77.
Here are my current specs:
CPU: Intel Core i5 2450P @ 3.20GHz Sandy Bridge 32nm
RAM: 8.00GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 665MHz
Motherboard: MSI B75A-G41
GPU: 4096MB ATI AMD Radeon R9 380 Series (MSI)
Hard disk: 232GB Samsung SSD 850 EVO 250GB ATA
931GB Seagate ST1000DM003-9YN162 ATA

I'm sorry, but I can't overclock that CPU for two reasons. First, it isn't a k series CPU, which is required for Intel CPUs since the Sandy Bridge line. Second, your motherboard is a B75 and you need a Z77 board to achieve the overclocking.
