Overclocking Infinity Fabric and Zen 2 Ryzen 5 chips
I've noticed video guides suggesting it's tougher to reach FCLK above 1600Mhz on the R5 3600. If you try to overclock Infinity Fabric, then 3700X or 3600X would likely be the top choice. So, is achieving a 1800MHz FCLK on the Ryzen 5 3600 actually more challenging than on the 3600X, or is it just a matter of hardware luck?
Everyone seems to think the 3600X is essentially the same CPU as the 3600, just labeled differently. If getting extra headroom was the key factor in choosing one over the other, I’d definitely give it the green light.
I wouldn't give much weight to those videos and definitely shouldn't draw wide conclusions from their claims unless they had a substantial selection of CPUs to consider. Steve from GamersNexus tends to be very cautious about disclosing his overclocking outcomes, so the audience knows he's testing in isolation. As he shares more cases, he'll provide clearer guidance on what to anticipate.
I've seen Steve's Review and noticed most reviewers used similar settings. I'm worried about the R5 3600's ability to hit higher FCLK frequencies. It's a solid choice overall, but if it limits your FCLK or RAM overclock options, you might want to look at a 3600X for a $40 extra.
