You can still get a Z77 motherboard that lets you push your CPU beyond its limits as long as your cooling system permits.

Do you think it’s worth spending around $150 and holding onto the 3770K for a while longer, or saving up for a newer i7 next year?
That decision is yours. The overclocking potential of these 3770Ks with a solid cooling solution is only as good as the cooling itself, and the higher the cooler, the better the performance you can achieve.
My 3770K has been running at 5ghz since I first owned it, but with your cooling setup you should be able to hit around 4.5ghz to 4.7ghz.
Whether this is beneficial for you depends entirely on your goals.
Thanks! I’m planning to buy a new motherboard for the 3770K, boost it to 4.5Ghz, and then upgrade the GPU later.
